Consulting across ITSM, IT Transformation and Business Value Recovery

The OPTICSS Framework: how we find where value is leaking

OPTICSS is the lens GPS17 applies to every engagement: Organisation, Process, Technology, Information, Content, Security and Suppliers. For each domain we establish your current maturity, agree the target maturity your business objectives actually require, and define the steps between the two.

It keeps our work honest. No recommendation is made before diagnosis, no target is set higher than the value it returns, and because every finding is mapped to the domain where the weakness really sits, improvements land as a coherent whole — not a collection of isolated fixes.

Seven domains. One honest picture of where you are, and what it is costing you.
Our focus in every engagement is the same: align technology with business goals so that value streams flow, operations run efficiently, and innovation accelerates. We deliver this through three connected practices.
IT Transformation
The problem as we see it

Transformations stall for predictable reasons: the technology changes while the operating model, skills, information flows and supplier contracts stay exactly as they were. Six of the seven OPTICSS domains sit outside "Technology" — which is precisely why technology-led programmes run out of road.

What we do

We baseline all seven domains before a roadmap is drawn, then follow a structured path — interview, discover, analyse, identify, recommend — that turns the assessment into a sequenced programme across parallel people, process and technology workstreams. We start small to build confidence and momentum, then accelerate: operating model design, cloud-native modernisation, governance that keeps standards alive after we leave, and the training and adoption work that most programmes forget.

What we leave you with

A transformation roadmap with value milestones every quarter — so the business sees measurable benefit throughout the journey, not a promise held until the end. And because the OPTICSS baseline is repeatable, progress is measured, not asserted.

ITSM & Service Integration
The problem as we see it

Most service management problems are treated as tooling problems. In our experience the tool is rarely the constraint. The real causes sit elsewhere: ownership that dissolves at every supplier boundary (Organisation), processes that describe an ideal rather than what actually happens (Process), and reporting that measures activity instead of outcomes (Information).

What we do

We assess each ITSM practice — incident, problem, change, asset and configuration — against ITIL 4-aligned criteria, with every criterion mapped to the OPTICSS domain where the weakness actually lives and maturity scored against an agreed target. Then we fix what the assessment reveals: SIAM operating models for multi-supplier environments, end-to-end service design, and measures that track the value users receive, not the tickets IT closes.

What you leave with

A practice-by-practice maturity baseline, an agreed target state, and a prioritised now / soon / later roadmap — with the cost of every gap quantified in terms your CFO recognises, not just your CIO.

The problem as we see it

Lost IT value is rarely lost in one place. It leaks quietly across domains: duplicated tooling (Technology), contracts that no longer match what you consume (Suppliers), processes that manufacture rework (Process), and decisions made on instinct because the data is not trusted (Information). No single line item looks wrong — yet the total is substantial.

What we do

We trace IT spend to business value domain by domain, quantify what underperformance is costing, and build the recovery case in the language of the boardroom: cost of poor practice, investment benchmarks, and value thresholds for every improvement. Our IT Value Index then gives you a repeatable measure of the business value IT delivers — so recovered value stays recovered.

What you leave with

A quantified value-leak analysis, a benefits realisation plan with named owners and measures, and a business case your board can approve.

Business Value Recovery
Not sure which practice you need?
That is exactly what the Value Diagnostic is for. Thirty minutes, an honest first read across the seven OPTICSS domains, and a clear view of where to start — whether or not we work together.

GPS17 Consulting transformed our IT alignment, enhancing efficiency and driving innovation in our organization.
